Conservatives are losers.
Conservatives are losers in their souls.
They do not believe that they have a right to rule, a duty to rule, a God-given hail-Satan Allahu-akbar obligation to rule.
Their victory scenario is "we'll win the election and then go home".
This is the fantasy of a loser.
"And then, on that day, they'll see me as a winner"
A loser's fantasy is about having the experience of winning.
He's not actually interested in the reality of winning, and what it takes to make it happen. (Hint: It takes everything. Everything you have. Your soul.)
Winners don't plan on going home. Ever. They're in the game till the end. (And beyond, if they raise a super awesome chadly son.)
I've just finished a biography of Lenin.
Horrible man. But relentless.
And he never once planned on going home. He never fell into that particular illusion.
Conservative rhetoric always follows the same set of patterns.
I've heard it all my life.
1) "One day they'll go too far, and then they'll see what happens"
2) "People won't stand for this"
3) "It's just not tenable"
4) "When they grow up, they'll realize why it's a bad idea"
The rhetoric is cope.
It's all an excuse for "I will do nothing".
(I despise this attitude more than any other. It's not even worth talking to people whose goal is to do nothing. To do so is a waste of energy, which is precious. Energy is water in the desert, as in Dune. It is the scarcest thing you have.)
And then conservatives wonder why they keep losing.
Because the other factions actually act.
So necessarily, the future happens elsewhere. In other rooms, in other buildings, among other people.
Conservatives are not interested in the future.
They find the past much more pleasant.
That's where their minds are.
That's where their conversation leads to.
"Back when I was a boy, things were better..."
Ah, well, you see, we're living in a different world now.
The Romans never called it the Roman Empire. They always called it the Roman Republic.
Even after Augustus butchered all his enemies and spent the rest of his life sending out death squads against anyone who looked a little dangerous.
(He'd learned from his uncle Caesar's mistake - it's a bad idea to show mercy to people who hate you.)
Similarly, today, Americans think they live in a country called America.
A Republic. Free, brave, rich.
Nope. They live in an Empire.
The American Empire.
Whose primary interest in getting them into as much debt as possible, and making them into serfs. Profitable, profitable serfs. Sadly still a bit on the noisy side, but we're working on that.
And as for globalization...
We no longer harvest only the strongest brawn of other countries, but also their best minds.
We brainwash them ("freedom ! don't you want to be free ?"), bring them in, get them into a mortgage, and work them hard.
Soon they will become like us.
Childless and child-like.
We send out missionaries, preaching that you shouldn't save yourself for marriage, but for work.
(All cultures have a religion. So sing with me from the new hymnsheet...)
For a career.
Paid in ever-less-valuable scrip.
(For that is what the dollar is, honey chile - company scrip, and you live in a company town.)
Winners don't go home.
The January 6th insurrection (to give it a term it really does not merit) in 2021 in Washington DC was done by people who did not understand how to win, and did not want to understand.
Here's how you win (assuming that winning interests you): You take the capital, and you stay there, and you set up tribunals, and you send all your opponents to prison. Forever. Make up whatever charges you have to, and get a pet judge to sign everything.
(I recommend serious study of the French and Russian and Chinese revolutions. Doing so will cure you of a lot of nice fuzzy romantic illusions about human nature.)
Idiots. Thrice-damned children-of-running-dogs crud-for-brains sons-of-indeterminate-parentage idiots.
Don't try to take the capital, unless, you know, you actually want to take the capital.
Who's been running tribunals ? Not the rebels.
And who has been sitting in jail forever ? The rebels.
Hm. Looks like losing to me.
So: The only interesting form of politics is always: Splits among factions of progressives who have different visions of progress.
That's it. That's all that there will ever be.
Every peasant rebellion fails, because peasants fundamentally resent good organization (one can see why, given their lived experience), and won't do it.
But when sections of the elite are worried that the future might not have a place for them, well, then things can move very quickly.
Silicon Valley vs Washington DC.
Blockchain vs AI.
Chinese Communist Party vs Global Elite.
These are interesting splits.
Ohio vs Washington DC is significantly less gripping.
I see a fair number of popular Substack writers who
1) Accurately describe our situation
2) Accurately describe how it came to be
3) End with "so pay me $10 a month"
4) And that's it. No plan, no hint of a plan, no acknowledgement of the mere possibility of a plan, just "give me money every month".
Dude. You're using all this brainpower to grift ? To beg the conservative idiots for small change (which is inflating away) while your world burns around you ?
Have you considered trying to win ?
I have.
The clock cannot be turned back. Ever.
One can never step into the same river twice.
The only way out is through.
And so: I declare that Tela Network is one of the only truly progressive factions out there.
Unlike various other progressive factions, who are of course all heretics, and traitors to the sacred cause of progress.
It's completely true, by the way.
I genuinely do want to progress into a better future.
If you don't like the game, change the board.
Applying a fee to each message that we send between ourselves is a small thing.
But it produces radically different incentives for all the players in the game, as it scales out.
It allows order, it allows _sense_, to emerge from the infinite chaos of information space.
It makes the current winning strategy ("own-all-the-loudspeakers-and-shout-at-people-forever") much less workable.
It brings forth a new world.
I do not wish to go back to the past.
Therefore I am a progressive, not a conservative.
The past is dead.
I want to go forward, into a new vision of the future.
And, Comrades, it can be glorious.
Yours in ambition,

Yes it's sad.
Everyone is complaining but nobody offers a plan or wants to discuss one. They need to act if they want things to change but they won't.
So it's really quite sad to see that this post has no comments on it.
I don't think your tela will change society, the problem is inside the people. They are broken, useless and idiotic.
Charging for messages doesn't resolve the underlying problem, that their messages aren't worth reading. For that they need to spend time thinking or researching for themselves.
And ultimately, they need to understand what real trust looks like. Rather than the blind hero worship that the movies promote.
My solution would be to collect all the sane people who remain and ignore the retarded masses.
Those who manage to remain sane in this world will then produce a new generation who possess an immunity to brainwashing.
I am struggling to find anyone however.
